Big Shots TV series Plot

Posted by: admin | Comments (2)

The show was officially pitched as “the story of four friends at the top of their game… until the women in their lives enter the room. Lines between boardroom and bedroom blur when these competitive but dysfunctional CEOs take refuge in their friendship, discussing business, confiding secrets, seeking advice and supporting each other through life’s surprising twists and turns.”

During the show’s short run, each character had one or two major plot arcs that generally did not overlap. The principal characters were tied by their wealthy lifestyles, friendship and regular visits to their men’s club, where they commisserated while engaging in leisure activities in the sauna, pool room, golf course and the like. James was promoted to the position of his late boss, but discovered that his wife had had an affair with the man. The fallout of the divorce, and his romantic relationship with his VP, Katie, were his main plot lines. Duncan tried to win back his first wife (the mother of his twenty-something daughter). His efforts were thwarted by personal scandal (sex with a transwoman) and the machinations of his professional and personal rival. Additionally, a mentally-troubled young man insinuates himself in Duncan’s life, claiming to be his son. Karl takes up a mistress, but quickly ends the relationship. Ironically, his wife (who knows nothing of the affair) becomes the woman’s best friend and she moves in with the couple. His story lines center on this ironic situation, along with the couple’s infertility. Brody is characterized as hen-pecked at home, and the somewhat put-upon friend of the four. His connections often help them (especially Duncan) in their times of trouble. His chief actions surround his efforts to procure a higher clientele.

What Was Wrong With Big Shots???

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Well guys since there nothing new about Big Shots, I just thought to have a look at the reasons behind the axing of one of our favorite shows. Well personally I feel that if the only reason behind the cancellation of a show is its poor ratings, then the producers need to get their heads checked!!! I mean, ratings do depend on a lot of things, an especially in this case, the ratings could have dropped because of the prolonged writer’s strike as well as the constant change in time slots and so many other things which cannot be controlled. And I really feel that if the show had continued after the writers strike ended, it would have reached new heights of popularity. It had a lot of potential to grow both in terms of story as well as popularity. Bringing it to an abrupt end was a big mistake. I think the people at ABC are crazy to cancel a show that stood out of the league.

The show with a nice and captivating plot and adorable and talented actors left people craving for more. At the end of each episode
people were left guessing as to what would happen next and this brought them closer to the characters. It not only made you laugh but also raised some serious questions that concern our society. Unlike other shows, people were interested in every character. In an era where every second show is female oriented, this was one of the very few male oriented shows. I along with most of my friends was quite upset with the cancellation of the show and would like to advice the people at ABC to bring back the show which can replace many dumb shows being aired right now.

We’ve already got The Promotion, but just in case you were itching for more man-on-man office wars, a whole new battling duo is on the way. The Hollywood Reporter posts that Michael Vartan and David Cross are going to play “bitter tire store rivals” in a new comedy called Demoted, that American Pie 2 helmer J.B. Rogers will direct from actor and writer Dan Callahan’s screenplay.

In a step down from his character’s success on Big Shots, Vartan will play a guy named “Rodney McAdams, a hotshot Treadline Tires sales associate who delights in tormenting his less-than-cool colleague, Ken (Cross).” But wait — before you think Cross is being relegated to another role where he just gets tormented and takes it, or has a fear of nudity, read on: “When their boss suddenly dies, Ken is promoted and assigns Rodney to a secretarial job as payback, giving the male chauvinist a taste of his own medicine.” You just don’t cross the Cross!

Vartan Got That New Car Smell

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Oh Michael Vartan, how I’ve missed seeing you every week “handling” Sydney Bristow and stealing longing looks across the debriefing room table. Yes, you were the heart of “Alias” but sadly, once you two consummated your feelings, in the middle of a recently destroyed SD-6, the show never recovered.

This was also around the same time that Michael started dating Jennifer Garner off-screen and I loved that relationship, too. It was like Sydney and Vaughn came to life! Sadly that relationship was doomed - and once those two consummated their feelings, Michael’s career never recovered.

He was rudely half-written out of the final season and was then relegated to star on “Big Shots” while Jennifer went on to be a big-screen star and have a baby with Ben Affleck. Here’s hoping Michael’s new movie, “Demoted,” can bring him up to Jen’s level once again.

In the film Michael plays Rodney McAdams, a hotshot tire salesman who gets sick glee out of torturing his less-cool colleague Ken, played by David Cross (yea!). But when their boss kicks the bucket Ken is promoted over Rodney and gets some revenge by demoting him to be his secretary.

Too bad Ken isn’t capable of demoting Rodney to be his French maid, with the outfit and everything. Oops, sorry, this just veered into some weird fan-fic territory, didn’t it?

The Big Shots — Titus, Vartan, McDermott, Malina — and their entourage.Courtesy of ABC

Vulture’s taking a look at some of the most prominent of the picked-up fall TV shows. Which are good? Which are horrible? And most important, which will be worth a precious DVR season pass?

Title: Big Shots

Stars: Michael Vartan (Alias), Dylan McDermott (The Practice), Christopher Titus (Titus), and Joshua Malina (The West Wing)

Network: ABC, Thursdays at 10

The pitch: As cosmetics honcho Duncan Collingsworth (McDermott) jokes in the pilot episode of this CEO soap opera: “Men. We’re the new women.”

Pilot report: We meet James Auster (Vartan), whose boss’ death leads to his promotion. And Duncan, who needs to cover up his affair with a tranny hooker. (It’s tranny hooker season on ABC!) And Karl (Malina), whose wife unknowingly befriends his mistress. And Brody, the type-A Harvard grad who’s totally whipped. Basically, four high-powered metrosexuals who gossip about their co-workers, worry about their children, complain about their spouses, backstab their competitors, and braid one another’s hair (okay, we made that last one up).

Representative dialogue:

Dominic: “Tell [tranny hooker Dontrelle] to call me at this number, and tell her it’s really, really important.”
Prostitute: “She’s that good, huh?”
Brody: “Let’s just say when it comes to sex, she’s the man.”

Breakout star: We’re pulling for sassy Jazzmun (Dontrelle) and her perfect fan of acrylic nails.

Worth a season pass?: No. You know how Sex and the City’s creators wrote about four gay men who just happened to have breasts and Manolos? We get the feeling the Big Shots guys are reading roles written for Ally McBeal and her girlfriends.

Big ShotsWhile there appears to be hope looming on the horizon for an imminent resolution to the three-month long deadlock between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, there doesn’t seem to be any such positive outlook for ABC’s Big Shots. The freshman series was canned in December, with three episodes still left for broadcast.

Big Shots co-star, Michael Vartan, who played James Auster on the cancelled program, recently commented on his former big-screen co-star, Jennifer Lopez’s pregnancy. Lopez clearly made a good and lasting impression on the actor, with whom she shared the spotlight in the film, Monster-in-Law.

“I think she’ll be a wonderful mom,” Vartan was quoted by the New York Post.  “I think Latin women have the key…very emotional, very nurturing.  You always hear about big Latin families and how lose-knit they are.”

In other news, Vartan’s fellow Big Shots cast member, Joshua Malina, will be among the special guests at a Gala Celebrity Poker fundraising event on Sunday, February 10.  The event, which is scheduled to take place at Hollywood Park Casino on W. Century Boulevard in Inglewood, California, is for the benefit of the families of California firefighters who were injured or killed in the line of duty while battling the wildfires that ravaged the Southern California area last year.

Hosted by the California State Firefighters Association or CSFA, the celebrity poker fundraiser gets underway at 2pm with a celebrity cocktail reception that includes both a silent as well as a live auction.  This will be followed by a brief ceremony to honor firefighters injured in the Southern California blaze.  The No-Limit Texas Hold’-em Tournament is then set to commence at 3pm.  This tournament is limited to 250 players and the buy-in is set at $450.

Some of the other television personalities expected to join Big Shots‘ Malina are Brian Krause from Charmed and Joseph Mascolo of The Bold and the Beautiful and Days of our Lives.
